The Star Model 53DS is a heavy-duty automotive brake drum lathe used in garages, truck shops, transit fleets, and brake rebuilding facilities during the era when drum brakes were common on cars and medium/heavy trucks. This one was built in 1982. It works very well although it is very dirty and dusty. It was taken out of service because our bus fleet has transitioned to disc brakes and this lathe has not been used in a few years.
The machine was primarily intended to:
- Resurface brake drums
- Restore roundness and smooth finish inside worn drums
- Eliminate brake pulsation, grabbing, and noise
- Machine commercial truck drums
- Truing up brake shoes on the other end of the lathe with the optional adapter.
- Heavy cast iron base and carriage
- Electric motor
- Adjustable boring bar/cutter assembly
- Feed screw for smooth automatic cutting feed
- Very robust spindle bearings
This STAR drum lathe was overbuilt compared to modern lightweight brake lathes.
Note: We do not ship anything. Buyer must pick up or arrange your own packaging and shipping.
